A Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) permits travel to Australia for tourism or business visitor purposes. The visa may be valid for different periods including up to three (3), six (6) or twelve (12) months. In some instances, the embassy may only allow a shorter stay period of one month and may also impose a restrictive condition, which affects the holder's ability to apply for a further visa from within Australia.

To qualify for a Visitor Visa application, you must hold an eligible passport. Applicants who are not eligible to apply for a Visitor Visa online are required to submit a paper application through their nearest Australia immigration office.

In some cases, certain visa holders who are currently in Australia, can apply for a Visitor Visa online to extend their stay; provided they hold a valid visa which does not have condition 8503 attached to it.

Average processing times can vary greatly ranging between four to six weeks. If a request for additional documentation is received, this can impact the processing period. In some cases, applicants are required to undergo biometrics or health checks.

Prospective travellers, who are otherwise eligible to apply for an ETA or an E Visitor Visa but have declared a criminal conviction, should submit an application for a Visitor Visa.
